- Do you think people in your country have long enough holidays?
Well, to be honest I suppose not everyone has enough time to unwind during the year. For us students, we annually have a summer vacation for 3 months from June to the end of August, so I think it’s a decent amount of time for the youths to relax after a whole year studying. However, adults in Vietnam probably are tied to work the whole year. The only long holiday they have is Tet, which lasts for 7 days, which I would say is too short considering the rest of the year.
- Which holidays are popular in your country?
The most popular one is our Lunar New Year, which we call Tet or Tet Nguyen Dan. I think it’s safe to say that Tet in Vietnam is just as important as Christmas and Thanksgiving in the West, as it is the time for Vietnamese people, especially ones that have to work away from their families, to reunite with their loved ones. Also, like I said earlier, Tet is the longest holiday we have in Vietnam, so it’s what everyone looks forward to during the year.
- What are the differences between old and young people when spending their holidays?
In my opinion, I would say that discrepancies in the way the old and the young enjoy holidays are pretty obvious.
Older people tend to prioritize relaxation and leisure during their holidays. They may prefer destinations that offer tranquility and peace, such as beach resorts or countryside retreats.
In contrast, younger people often seek more adventurous and active experiences during their holidays. They may be drawn to destinations where they can explore nature, join adventure sports, and adrenaline-inducing activities such as hiking, skiing, or water sports. Younger individuals may also prioritize socializing and nightlife, seeking out vibrant urban areas with bustling entertainment scenes.
- Do you think having holidays helps people learn about other countries’ cultures?
Yes of course, having holidays is definitely a perfect opportunity for people to learn about new cultures. When people travel to different countries for holidays, they often have the chance to immerse themselves in new environments, interact with local communities, and experience different cultural practices firsthand. This exposure can foster a deeper understanding about exotic culture and appreciation of cultural diversity.
