Describe a time when you helped someone (you worked or studied with)
You should say: Who you helped Why you helped him/her How you helped him/her And explain how you felt about the experience |
It’s quite difficult to single out one instance of me being helpful because it has simply become my second nature. So, I’m going to share the most recent example that occurred during a math project last week. Our assignment was to solve a series of complex calculus problems, and one of my group members, let’s call him Nam, was struggling to understand the concept of derivatives.
During our group first’s discussion session, Nam appeared quite confused and overwhelmed, which was impeding our progress on the project. Luckily, as a perceptive person, I took notice of that and talked to him privately after the session to offer my assistance. We decided to meet up the day after and I brought along some additional materials, such as textbooks and practice problems, to help clarify anything that Nam might be struggling to have a grasp on.
During our study session, I took the time to break down the concepts of derivatives, using examples and step-by-step explanations to illustrate their applications. Nam was rather shy and timid at first, but I encouraged him to ask as many questions as he wanted and guided him through each problem until he felt more confident with the material.
As a result of our collaboration, Nam’s understanding of calculus improved significantly. He was able to contribute more effectively to our project, and his newfound confidence positively impacted the entire group’s progress. It was rewarding to see Nam overcome his initial struggles, which reaffirms the importance of supporting one another.
